Shrayana Bhattacharya, Economist & Author

Shrayana Bhattacharya is a Senior Economist in the World Bank’s Social Protection and Jobs Practice for South Asia. In her present role, she leads the Bank’s development policy dialogue and projects with state and central government agencies in India on social protection measures and cash transfers. Prior to the World Bank, she worked with SEWA Union, Centre for Policy Research and ILO. She has completed her post-graduation in development economics at Delhi University and Harvard University. Her debut book ‘Desperately Seeking Shah Rukh: India’s Lonely Young Women and the Search for Intimacy and Independence’ was released in November 2021.
